Indications / Uses
Control secondarily generalized tonic-clonic & partial seizures. Treatment of trigeminal & glossopharyngeal neuralgia & other severe pain syndromes associated w/ neurological disorders eg tabes dorsalis & multiple sclerosis. Prophylaxis of manic depression (bipolar disorder) unresponsive to lithium.

Dosage / Direction for Use
Epilepsy Initially 100-200 mg once or bid gradually increased in increments of 100-200 mg 2 wkly. Maintenance: 800 mg to 1.2 g daily in divided doses. Childn 10-20 mg/kg daily in divided doses. Alternative daily dose: 10-15 yr 600 mg to 1 g, 5-10 yr 400-600 mg, 1-5 yr 200-400 mg, ≤1 yr 100-200 mg. Trigeminal neuralgia Initially 100 mg once or bid, may be increased gradually. Maintenance: 400-800 mg daily in 4 divided doses up to 1.6 g daily. Manic depression prophylaxisInitially 400 mg daily in divided doses, may be increased gradually up to a max of 1.6 g daily. Maintenance: 400-600 mg daily.
