Description

Mechanism of Action
Alumunium hydroxide acts on the HCl in the stomach by neutralization, forming aluminium chloride salt and water.
Absorption: Alumunium hydroxide reacts with hydrochloric acid in the stomach to form soluble aluminium chloride, which is absorbed from the GI tract.
Excretion: Absorbed aluminium is excreted via the urine. Insoluble aluminium salts formed in the intestines, eg, hydroxides, carbonates, phosphates and fatty acid derivatives, are excreted in the faeces.
